Protecting Privacy and Securing Public Data

Protecting Privacy and Securing Public Data

Responsible Safeguards in a Rapidly Changing Digital Environment

The Auditor’s Office is responsible for safeguarding sensitive information, including financial records, personal data, and election systems. As technology evolves, so do the risks. Protecting this information requires ongoing attention, strong practices, and coordination with trusted partners.

Working with government systems has shown me how important it is to balance access with security. I will prioritize cybersecurity measures, regular system updates, and staff training to reduce risk and protect personal information. At the same time, I will ensure that government remains transparent and accessible. Maintaining that balance is essential to public trust, and I am committed to doing that work carefully and consistently.

Security is not a one-time effort. It requires regular review, coordination with experts, and a willingness to adapt as new risks emerge. Staff training and awareness are also critical, because strong systems depend on the people who use them every day.

At the same time, protecting privacy should never come at the expense of access to public information. The goal is to do both well, ensuring that residents can obtain the information they need while knowing their personal data is being handled responsibly. This balance is central to maintaining trust in local government.
